Carpet Stain Removal

There tends to be a specific stain removal technique for each kind of substance that might get on a carpet, however in general the same sorts of techniques can be applied for just about all of them. That’s what is going to be explained in this article. If you cannot remove the stain yourself though then you might have to go to a professional for help, and when it comes to carpet cleaning, london is going to have plenty of companies. You will be able to find them just about everywhere though.

Is It Really A Stain?

Technically speaking, a stain is a spot which you cannot get out and a spot is a stain that can be removed. In other words, when you have a stain in the technical sense there isn’t going to be anything that you can do about it. It is only spots, technically, that can be removed. In this article, however, we are not going to be using the terms in their technical senses, and will instead use “stain” to refer to both.

As long as you get to a liquid quickly, it shouldn’t be too hard to get it off the carpet. The first thing to do is to blot it. That is important, that you blot and do not rub. If you rub, you risk actually rubbing it in instead of getting it out, and it can also cause damage to the carpet. After you’ve got the liquid up, you should rinse the area and then blot that up too, and repeat as much as necessary.

Getting Rid Of Semi-Solids

When something like margarine, syrup, jam or some other semi-solid material is dropped on a carpet you have to get rid of it in much the same way as a liquid. You can’t go straight for blotting though of course, first of all you’ll have to carefully get what you can with a spoon. Whatever is left behind you should rinse, and then blot up as with liquid.

Getting Rid Of Dried Solids

When a solid substance has been left on a carpet for a long time it can be set in. The good news there, of course, is that it is not too difficult to just break this up and then simply vacuum it. That is not guaranteed to get rid of all of it though, there might still be a stain left underneath. If there is then you just have to go through and use the technique just described, rinsing and blotting dry.

Intense Carpet Stain Removal

Of course there are going to be occasions, in all three examples listed above, where water is not actually enough to get rid of the stain. Usually it will be if you get to it fast, but if you don’t find it for some time, or maybe you have just kept on putting off dealing with it, then it is going to be more difficult.

This technique is actually very similar to what has already been described, it is just that you have to add an extra stage. Instead of just applying water, first of all you have to put the stain remover on. That should be applied with a white cloth, starting at the edge and moving in. That way you’ll be avoiding spreading the stain at all. Again, it is just a case of blotting it dry after you’ve put it on, then rinsing, drying, and applying the stain remover again if necessary.

More Techniques

If you have a lot of stains on your carpet, or they are very difficult to get out, you might like to use a steam cleaner instead. This is a technique which literally washes the carpet clean. It can take quite a few runs to clean absolutely everywhere though, but you really have to clean the whole carpet otherwise some parts will be different colours to other parts.
