The ideas below are a suggestions that may help you to keep your car seats from getting too dirty. This will help to lower the amount of times you have to clean the car seats.
The first suggestion is to keep a small portable vacuum in the car. This will help to suck crumbs out of the car seat. Keep cleaner in the car that is made for upholstery, and ground in stains. After taking the kids out of the car you can vacuum, and you can scrub out any stains that may be in the car.

I like to use a small storage bin to keep under the seat in the car. Inside of the cleaning kit, I keep all cleaning products, a scrubber brush, heavy duty paper towels, and whatever other item I need to disinfect and clean the car. By keeping this in the car cleaning will be a bit easier

When you take the kids out of the car seats, be sure to check for stains. If you notice a stain, clean it immediately. Get out your cleaning kit, and scrub out any ground in stains. By the time you get back in the car, the stain should be dry and clean. If you are just running errands at the store you should wait until you get home to clean out the stains. It may take a little extra scrubbing, but you should not have any serious problem getting the stains out.

Keep a garbage bag in the car to put all of the mess that you find in the car. If you have a small vacuum, you will want to make sure you empty the vacuum cleaner after each use. You don't want to leave crumbs and food items in the canister for weeks. Just dump it all out when done. Your car seat covers can usually be removed to wash them out. This should be done at least once a month. You can take the covers off and clean down the seat belts.

By taking the time to maintain the car seat on a daily basis after each use you will make your car seat cleaning task a lot easier to manage. As the kids get bigger you can have them pitch in and help you out with the cleaning tasks. As the kids learn to pick up their own messes you will find it a lot easier to manage.
