A huge factor in your success will be the type of carpet you have, synthetic fibers can sometimes be cleaned better than all natural fibers like silk or wool. A shop-vac is a carpet of owner best friend when it comes to removing carpet stains, some homeowners don't realize that. Those vacuum cleaners are referred to as dry/wet vacuum cleaner you can quickly suck up spills, but more importantly, you could repeatedly flush the area with water and suck it out. This is much more efficient than blotting with a cloth, and less likely to cause damage to the carpet.
Another crucial step in carpet cleaning is urgency! Attend to stains quickly, nearly a hundred percent of stains could be removed by one cleaning product or another if removed in a few days time. It is quite impossible to remove once the stain sets into the fabric of the rug causing a chemical reaction that will remain on the carpet. And also, always treat the stains very well. If you fail to do this, the stain that you have removed before may reappear after sometime. For prevention, you can cover the rug stain overnight with a thick absorbable cloth and put down with something heavy. It will help press the cloth to the rug. After which, clean the stain accordingly.
Prevention is another important thing when it comes to carpet cleaning. A routine maintenance will prolong your carpets beauty and looks. Clean and vacuum your carpets on a regular basis. Dirt, dust, pet hair, and other grime accumulate in the carpet fibers resulting in dirty looking carpet and problems for allergy sufferers. If the grime and dirt is left to build up, your carpet can become damaged and it will be more difficult to thoroughly clean.
Removing Your Carpet Odors: Carpet odors have many sources. Odors come from food and drinks that have been spilled, animal accidents and substances dragged inside on shoes and dirty feet. One of the best ways to remove carpet odors is to take the carpet outdoors, clean it with a mild detergent and let it dry thoroughly in the sun.
While this solution is great for area rugs and small removable pieces of carpet, it obviously will not work if your carpet has been permanently installed. Carpet odors in permanently installed carpet can be removed in the same manner - by rubbing it gently using a mild detergent into your carpet. Instead of drying the carpet in the sun, you can use a room fan pointed directly onto the offending area to help your carpet dry quickly and thoroughly. Keep in mind - if you use too much water when cleaning your carpet, the water will soak into the carpet pad where it will make nasty odors of its own. When removing carpet odor, it is better to err on the side of too little water than too much.
If all else fails, you may always use a spray on powder or liquid carpet freshener or deodorizer. This may not permanently remove the odor, however, it may lessen the odor to the point where you are comfortable in that room.
