Q#2 : I spilled dark purple nail polish on my light grey carpet. When I tried nail polish remover it didn't do a thing.
A#1 : If you have white carpet try bleach or white spirit or just finish it off with carpet cleaner
A#2 : Acetone will indeed remove most any nail polish from most any thing. Of course, acetone is such a powerful solvent, that it can also dissolve the item you're trying to clean. For this reason, a trial on a small, inconspicuous area of the stain is ESSENTIAL.
- Some recommend nail polish remover, others recommended other solvents that may work with nail polish. Still others mixed the nail polish remover with water or other reasonable things, partly to dilute the effect of the acetone. I commend them all: they get a gold star!
- If acetone won't work out, use physical or physico-chemical means, such as scrubbing and detergents. Here, the goal will be to break the film formed by the nitrocellulose, thereby admitting water and floating chips of the nail polish away from the stained fabric. Some people recommended scrubbing with brush, pumice, and so forth, possibly with some acetone or detergent!
A#3 : Any non-acetone finger nail polish remover will take that off and not hurt the carpet. Take a paper towel soak it down a little and wipe it off. Try to keep the area contained that you rub, at first it will look like you are smearing it around, keep changing paper towels until stain is gone. You need to change your cloth several times so you're not sliding polish over a bigger area. When done a liquid dish soap will get the smell out of the carpet.
A#4 : Made a mixture of liquid dish soap, hot water and bleach and continued scrubbing until the nail polish came out (for white carpets only). If that doesn't work for you try using a fabric marker from a craft store and color over the stain.
A#5 : The nail polish remover made the carpet turn pink. Try window cleaner ,it worked great.
A#6 : Used glass cleaner, all I had was the green multi surface type and it worked!
A#7 : I don't have Windex in my home so I tried the vinegar. I was having trouble with a larger stain and using toothpaste to bleach/clean fridge doors. I tried that with the vinegar (no water) and the spot started clearing instantly (red quick drying polish).
A#8 : Get the stain wet. ( lots of water). Spray with hairspray about 15 times. Drizzle with nail polish remover. Scrub with a toothbrush for 2-3 min.. Repeat process 3-4 times. Then vacuum over for about 5 min.. repeat process until needed results. (Depending on type of hairspray. Make sure your hairspray is NOT extreme hold or anything that's strong.)
